Poverty persists in all countries regardless of their economic, social and cultural situation,  particularly in developing countries. Concerned with the poverty problem, the United Nations(UN) called for countries to recognise and contribute towards the efforts of charitable individuals and organisations.

International Day of Charity is annually celebrated on the the 5th of September. The international day of charity serves to recognise the work of charitable organizations and individuals around the world whose charitable actions have contributed to the formation of more resilient and inclusive societies. The day also seeks to promote and acknowledge charity and easing humanitarian crises and suffering in the world.

The International Day of Charity was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in an effort to mobilize the world to help others. It aims to increase social responsibility worldwide, bring everyone together in solidarity and increase our support for charitable causes.
This day gives you a great opportunity to get involved in the charitable events that are going on around the globe. International Day of Charity started in Hungary as a way for the Hungarian civil society to enhance visibility, organise charitable events and also raise public support for charity.

The day is celebrated every year on September 5th, the anniversary of the death of mother Theresa of Calcutta, one of the most philanthropic individuals of our time. Mother Theresa passed away in 1997 at the age of 87 after a lifetime of charitable work with the sick and dying in India.

The importance of international day of charity
1. It spreads awareness: International day of charity gives a platform to causes that we might otherwise not be aware of as well as providing lots of ways to help these causes.
2. It reminds us to give back : it is elementary to live our lives and forget about all the injustices in the world. Charity Day helps bring our attention back and raise awareness of the little ways we can help
3. It helps us find causes we believe in: people have different reasons why they feel passion for things.
International Day of Charity may help you find a charity you feel passionate about

The Anneozeng Ogozi Aid Foundation participated in International Day of Charity by extending the hand of kindness and charity to the aged men and women of Chika Community in Abuja. Elderly people are one of the most vulnerable people in our societies and they hardly have people to care for them especially in Nigeria where we do not have old people’s homes. AOAF did not just provide them with wrappers and detergents, we also sensitized them on covid 19 and ways to stay safe during this period of pandemic.  The team received tremendous support from the community leader.
