Orphans and vulnerable children have been identified to be amongst the most at-risk population in Nigeria. Majority of Orphanage Homes across the country remain in bad condition as the running costs is almost impossible due to lack of funds. They remain dependent on the benevolence of individuals and non profit organizations.

Children who live in such orphanages do not only struggle to have access to basic amenities such as education or health, most orphans risk powerful cumulative and often negative effects as a result of parents’ death, thus becoming vulnerable and predisposed to physical and psychological risks.”-J.Sengendo( Health Practitioner)

While most adopted parents or school teachers find it difficult to know how to identify psychological and social problems, this consequently means that they fail to offer children the appropriate support needed most time. Many of these children suffer from emotional insecurity when adequate interventions are not put in place.

Nigeria remains home to over 17.5 million orphans and vulnerable children in Nigeria. The Anneozeng Ogozi Aid Foundation, in its quest to fulfill numbers 1 to 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals has visited orphanage homes to provide aid in terms of food supplies and scholarships. These needs were identified
overtime after assessments carried out revealed that many of the children suffer from malnutrition due to inaccessibility of food.

The Foundation’s recent visit to Christ Treasured Orphange in Kwali Area Council, Abuja on the 9th of January, 2021 was the first activity for the year and there was a smooth distribution of food supplies, toiletries, shoes and clothes and shoes to the hard to reach orphanage home.

A Covid -19 sensitization was carried out to aid in the mitigation of the number of cases being reported across the country.

The team was led by the founder, Amb. Anneozeng Ogozi Peters alongside the chairman, Mr. Victor Peters. We were highly welcomed by Rev. Mrs Ovie Abraham, the Proprietor of Christ Treasured Orphange. All Covid-19 preventive measures were adhered to during the visit.

As a Foundation we can rightly attest to the worrisome gaps identified in orphanage homes and strongly believe that children living in orphanages deserve much more care, attention, and good nutrition. A need to provide toiletries, basic food items, clothing and educational materials still remains and the AOA Foundation remains focused on doing much more for vulnerable children across the continent.
