The World Menstrual Hygiene day 2020 is widely commemorated across the world to promote and create awareness to the importance of menstrual hygiene. This year’s theme is ‘Periods in Pandemic; The idea behind choosing this theme is to highlight how the challenges faced by women during menstruation have worsened due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. Women, particularly in poor communities have limited access to sanitary pads and have become more vulnerable to catching infections. It has also been recorded that in communities were menstruation is perceived to be a taboo topic to discuss, many women and girls living in such communities are unaware of proper hygiene methods to practice while menstruating.

In light of this, the Anneozeng Ogozi Aid Foundation (AOAF), a non-profit organization borne out of a passion to mitigate marginalization among people and raise awareness on commonly shunned topics in Nigeria and across the world, deemed it necessary to reach out to the women and girls in Zehwun community, Karu, Nasarawa. The total number of beneficiaries were 200 consisting of 76 women and 124 girls.

The overall activity was a success and the aim was reached with positive response from beneficiaries. Appreciation goes to AHF and MREI for their support in helping us make this idea a reality.
